Are you Blue Light Aware? Where to Stop |
||
Blue Light Awareness Advice UKWhen encountering an emergency vehicle with blue lights and sirens, it is crucial to follow these guidelines to ensure the safety of both the emergency responders and the road users: Stay Calm: Do not panic when you see an emergency vehicle. It is important to remain calm and assess the situation. Move to the Side: If you can, move to the side of the road and come to a controlled stop without endangering yourself or other road users. Avoid Stopping Near Traffic Islands: Do not stop near traffic islands or kerbs, as this can obstruct the view of emergency vehicles. Do Not Brake Harshly: Avoid harsh braking at junctions or roundabouts, as this may cause other vehicles to lose their position and could lead to a collision. Follow the Route of the Vehicle: If you are in the way, follow the route of the emergency vehicle and allow it to pass safely. Use Red X Signs: Be aware of red X signs above the carriageway, which indicate that one or more lanes are closed due to an incident ahead. Emergency Corridors: If lanes are not closed, you can help form an emergency corridor by moving to the right or left to allow emergency vehicles to pass. Traffic Lights: At traffic lights, emergency vehicles will find a way around you. If you are first in the queue at a red light, leave the emergency vehicle to find its way around you. Siren and Blue Lights: If you hear a siren or see blue lights, stay calm and look for a safe place to move left and stop.
